Management Message

We would like to show our sincere gratitude for your continued support of Meiji Yasuda.

Since our founding, guided by the spirit of mutual aid, we have been committed to supporting our customers and local communities as a pioneer in the life insurance industry. Life insurance always embodies the unchanging “hopes and wishes” of people, regardless of the era. We believe it is our mission to respond to each entrusted hope and to continue supporting our customers throughout their lives, so that they can live healthy and secure lives.

About Meiji Yasuda

Meiji Yasuda was formed through the merger of the Meiji Life Insurance Company and The Yasuda Mutual Life Insurance Company in January 2004. The Company is Japan’s oldest life insurance company with approximately 140 years of history and tradition. Since our founding, we have refocused management on caring for customers, through recovering from fallen credibility caused by series of inappropriate in payment of insurance claims, and enhancing face-to-face after-sales services through the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In 2017, we established the Meiji Yasuda Philosophy, a new corporate philosophy. In it, we pledge to deliver “Peace of mind, forever” to customers and become “A Long-Respected Life Insurance Company that Cares about People First.”

About Meiji Yasuda

With growing concerns about sustainability in society due to global warming and other issues, interest in sustainable practices is increasing more than ever. The life insurance business is a fundamentally human endeavor that aims to make peace of mind and happiness sustainable for each individual by providing economic support to those who face illness or misfortune, with all policyholders supporting one another. We believe that this is, in itself, an embodiment of sustainability.
Based on this belief, in addition to our ongoing efforts to prolong healthy life expectancy, vitalize regional communities, protect the environment, and combat climate change, we are also conducting initiatives with the aim of enhancing social and economic value, such as helping children grow soundly, promoting financial inclusion (easy access to insurance for everyone), and respecting human rights.

In this way, Meiji Yasuda strives to excel as a young and vibrant life insurance company that constantly takes on new challenges while also stewarding history and tradition.

10-Year Plan “MY Mutual Way 2030” and Our Vision

Amid Japan’s growing social inequality, division and accelerating digitalization, we feel like we are entering an era that places greater value on mutual aid (which is the fundamental concept and value of life insurance) as well as the actual circumstances of companies and people.

In this environment, Meiji Yasuda is working on the 10-year plan, “MY Mutual Way 2030,” which began in April 2020. In this plan, we promised to remain close to customers and society over the long term as a mutual company. Under this plan, we established our vision toward 2030 as being “The most accessible, industry-leading life insurer capable of ‘Wellness for People, Vitality for Communities.’”

Starting in 2024, we have launched a three-year program called “MY Mutual Way Phase II,” with the aim of “expanding our roles as a life insurer.” This phrase reflects our strong commitment to not only providing protection and after-sales service—the conventional roles of a life insurance company—but also to expanding our contributions in two key directions: “the improvement of healthcare and quality of life (QOL)” and “revitalizing local communities,” through the enhancement of our two major projects: the “Wellness for All Project” and the “Community Vitalization Project.” To express our determination to realize these goals, we have changed our brand name from “Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance” to simply “Meiji Yasuda.”

Through this program, we are further advancing initiatives that contribute to solving social issues, achieving sustainable growth on a group-wide basis, and expanding our returns to customers and society. In our domestic life insurance business, we are working to eliminate compliance violations as a fundamental premise, while advancing the sophistication of our protection-type business and restructuring our saving-type business. In addition, we aim to expand group-based earnings through enhanced asset management and the expansion of our overseas insurance business.

Furthermore, we are committed to creating and providing new, multifaceted value through co-creation with local governments, other companies, and organizations.

As a Mutual Company

Amid a rapidly changing business environment, and in an era when companies are expected to flexibly and swiftly respond to those changes while working to create a sustainable society, we feel the need to go beyond creating conventional economic value and simultaneously create social value. Meiji Yasuda will leverage the advantages of being a mutual company supported by policyholders who are “mutual members” and owners of the company in order to promote management that prioritizes both its policyholders’ benefits and contributions to society for the future. Thank you for your continuous support.
